I wasn't familiar with Sam Contis or this book, but I find it interesting – coming from rural northern England I know these scenes SO well and as a result I never really photographed these stiles and pathways more than just the occasional shot. They were so everyday that they never seemed interesting. But presented as they are in his book, I can see how they make a really strong collection of photographs. I guess the moral here is to never overlook what's right in front of you.

Is your wife English?

That is so cool that these landscapes are very familiar to you! It's funny how we take our own backyard for granted at times.. I definitely feel you on that. When I first picked up the book, the thickness/amount of pages felt daunting but to be honest, it makes it more liberating in that you can flip to any page and you don't necessarily need to read it in order. Or at least that's how I see it! It's truly a beautiful collection of a rather mundane subject.

My wife is not English but her uncle's ex-wife and some of their children live there. It was so rad to meet them!
